Juror
Mr. Judd has been a juror for various shows including the American Craft Exposition in Evanston, IL, The Art Fair on the Square in Madison, WI, and the American Craft Shows wood category.
HIGHLIGHTS
Hospice Care, Madison, WI - Art pieces raffled or auctioned to raise funds. A clay mask is provided to a number of chosen artists and community celebrities to create an original art work. My submission titled "shelter" was one of the favorites and selected for a live auction. The funds were to benefit Hospice Care in Madison.
Deer Park, Oregon, WI - In honor of the new temple being built for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan community created a teaching throne as an offering for his visit in 2007. I built the structural framework for all the hand carved and painted wood appliqués, many of which were then gold leafed. The wood carvings arrived from Tibet and India. It was a fascinating experience and an honor to be part of this offering.
Furniture Society - The
spiral coffee table went on tour with the Furniture Society’s exhibit,
“Curv-iture,” traveling to Savannah,
Raleigh, Denver, Houston, and St. Petersburg. After the
exhibit, North Carolina State University in Raleigh purchased the table for
its permanent collection. The
success of this table has inspired a series of complementary designs.
Madison
Community Foundation, WI - I was presented with a wonderful opportunity to
create a one of a kind bench design. It was installed for the grand opening of
the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and remains on permanent display.
The Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra (WYSO)
selected artists to use violins to create their own artworks to be raffled for
their annual fundraiser. I knew immediately my design had to be a
functional piece of furniture. The resulting table uses three violin
scrolls to support a glass top. The legs and shelf are curly maple with
ebony detail.
